Description
My wife and I visit Devon and Cornwall every year, staying in Plymouth.
One of our frequent excursions is Dartmoor, where we like to see the wild ponies and impressive scenery. For the return journey, one of our favourite routes is to follow the River Dart back down towards the coast. The Dart valley and surrounding area is a place of great natural beauty.
On one occasion, we stopped at an old stone bridge at Huccaby near Hexworthy and spent some time watching a very skilled fly fisherman casting his nearly weightless fly or "lure" from a sand bank on a sharp bend in the river. I was impressed by the wonderful light and I knew that one day I would paint this scene.
My favourite dog Oscar has made an appearance again, watching intently as the fisherman casts his line. We did not stay long enough to see him catch anything.

Beautiful painting and full of that typical quite contrasty, UK summer light. The water in particular is very enjoyable to view and so carefully studied. Lots to enjoy here! I'm amazed it is only 12" x 10". v
