Description
ORIGINAL SOLD. AVAILABLE AS GICLEE PRINTS FROM FAA.
Wells-next-the-Sea is an attractive port located on the north Norfolk cost in England. Despite its name, the town is actually over a mile inland behind an array of marshes. Its prime location meant that in the late 16th Century, it became the major port for the area, with up to 19 ships trading corn. The towns status as a port carried on well into the early 20th Century, with the impressive Granary being built in 1903. This has now been converted into luxury flats.
I visited Wells and the surrounding area with some friends in 2003 and took a number of photographs of the town, including the ones of the children crabbing off the side of the quay, whom I have captured in this painting.
