I saw these two children on a beach in Cornwall. They were deep in conversation, although I have no idea what the topic was. It was such a charming sight that I knew I had to paint them. However, the background was rather uninspiring, so I placed them into a more interesting setting.
Award-winning artist, Richard Harpum, paints in a realist style, paying meticulous attention to detail. His medium of choice is acrylics on canvas or board but he also uses oils and paints watercolour florals. Richard's primary focus is landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes and gardens but he also paints portraits, still lifes and florals. The effective use of light is a key ingredient to all of Richard’s works and he spends a great deal of time before starting a painting in selecting a composition that provides both drama and contrast.
